This week, we have a mostly non-vocal tech-house mix. These are tracks that I discovered when I was travelling in South America last month, and I think that I also used most of them in my live shows while I was on the road.

For anyone who is interested in seeing photos from the time that I was in Antarctica, I have those photos online now. There are links at the bottom of that page to the three shows that I played while I was down there.

Next week will be a slight change in format once again, as I take things a bit more towards mainstream top40 dance tracks for one show.

For those of you who are interested in hearing some live sets that Bolivia recorded while in the Antarctic region, there will be three sets posted on his blog at djbolivia.blogspot.com over the coming week, so be sure to check them out. There is also a review of Creamfields Buenos Aires already there, posted a couple weeks ago.

This week's mix is a fairly significant departure from the regular format of the show. Rather than focusing on house, trance, and techno, this show is composed pretty much entirely of mainstream club dance tracks. I wanted to record a mix for my roommate, Kati Topolniski, for her birthday, and this is the result. I've often had requests to play more club tracks here, so depending on the feedback from this week's show, I'll probably do mainstream sets now and then in the future, maybe once every six to eight weeks.

For anyone in New Brunswick, I'll be playing at the "Thallowe'en" party in Sackville tomorrow night.

The last track on this week's show features Melissa Loretta, a vocalist from Toronto (photo below). My roommate, Drew Dudley, is a friend of hers and he introduced me to a couple of her tracks. Watch for her name to become a lot more well-known in the future.

For anyone in New Brunswick, I have a show at Chezzy's Lounge in Sackville (on Allison Avenue) tomorrow night. It'll be a longer set, from 11pm to 4am.

This week, I decided to do something different. Most of the time, I try to use very new tracks, or in some cases, unreleased tracks from other producers. However, for this episode, I "dug into the vaults" and every track is older. I think I'll try to do this about once every five or ten shows, to feature some music that has been released over the past several years.

James Sadoway is in the process of re-doing his website. Check it out here:

Our Odeo-based audio player that normally shows up in the blog is apparently not working at the present time. I'll look into this over the coming week, and try to find a replacement.

For anyone who follows my facebook page at facebook.com/djbolivia, I will be posting my sets from Las Vegas (end of July) at some point in the next few days. Sorry for the delay!

I think my favorite three tracks from this mix are probably "To The Girls," "Seduction," and "Professional Widow." Alejandro Montero, a DJ and producer from Argentina who remixed "To The Girls," seems to be putting out a lot of work lately. Anyone who enjoys progressive house with a Latino twist should definitely check him out. The original of "Seduction" was released a couple years ago, but the track is probably new to some people. And "Professional Widow" is a really bouncy traditional house style track, as you'll hear.

This week's show marks a pair of milestones. First, I'm back in the studio after being on the road for four months. No more guest mixes for a while, while I catch up on a backlog of some great music that has been released over the last month or so. I'll still feature guests mixes occasionally throughout the year, but most of the time I'll be programming and mixing the shows myself.

Also, even more notable, this is the first episode of the show that I mixed using Ableton Live. Normally, I wouldn't want to consider using a sequencer when putting the shows together, because I like mixing the "old fashioned" way, on turntables or CD players. However, there's a big advantage in being able to use Ableton for some of the shows. It means that I'll still be able to put the shows together when I'm on the road, whether just on short trips while playing at shows, or for extended periods during the summer. Next summer, I won't have to rely heavily on the assistance of guest DJ's to keep the show going, and there shouldn't be any gaps in the publication schedule. Ableton is pretty powerful. This week's episode was just a quick experiment in using the software, to get my feet wet again, but I think I can put together some really strong sets for the show in the coming weeks.

As always, you can send any feedback or track suggestions to the following email address:
djbolivia@gmail.com

See you in a week!
- Jonathan Clark
